Greener Shipley

Greener Shipley - a working group of Shipley Parish Council

A few people in the village are setting up a green group, which we have named "Greener Shipley”, and our focus is how we make Shipley even greener. Shipley Parish Council (SPC) established a climate working group at their meeting on 22nd November 2022 and Cllr Tuck was nominated lead Councillor for the working group at the SPC meeting held on 13th July 2023.

To start with, we want to:

  1. Build on the great things already happening, such as recycling bins at our schools, refills and repair café at Shipley Hub and “No Mow May”.
  2. Make it easier for everyone to enjoy the local environment and make a positive contribution to our local biodiversity.
  3. Improve our experience of using the roads, footpaths and bridleways in the village.
  4. Provide access to volunteer experts, via a community Helpdesk, in green, money-saving areas such as energy tariffs, bulbs, retro-fitting, heating systems, solar panels, water harvesting EV chargers etc.
  5. Further reduce waste.
  6. Support community buildings to reduce the village’s carbon footprint.

We are refining an action plan to support these objectives and have shaped these following: much research; visits to, and communication with, other parishes and HDC; the desire to enhance what great things Shipley already does; and a belief that the movement will grow in momentum.
