At the Shipley Parish Council meeting held in March 2024, the Chairman (Cllr Matthew Payne) paid tribute to Bob Phillips, a Freeman of Shipley Parish who sadly passed recently. A short note of Bob's significant achievements and service to the parish can be found HERE and as listed below. A photo of Bob and his wife Jose can be seen above.

In October 2021, the South Downs Generation Project interviewed Bob about his life, you can watch it HERE

A tribute to Bob Phillips - a Freeman of Shipley Parish

Bob lived in the Shipley Parish for over 80 years having been evacuated to Shipley with his family when he was a toddler at the beginning of the Second World War. He grew up here and had a great love and encyclopaedic knowledge of the Parish. If you wanted to know anything about Shipley the answer was – ask Bob - he will know – and he always did.

Bob was very involved in and contributed to all aspects of parish life. He was a Governor of Shipley School when his children were there and an invaluable member of the Parish Council for over 40 years, twice being elected as Chairman during his time in office, always never afraid to stand up at meetings for what he thought was right for the Parish.

He was also greatly involved with the Shipley Scout Troop and spear headed numerous fund-raising efforts to improve the facilities of the Scout Hut, most recently the re-thatching of the roof and the building of the new shower & toilet blocks to the rear of the site open from April 2024.

Bob was an integral part of the life of the Parish for such a long period of time, a kind unassuming, generous man devoted to his wife & family of whom he was rightly very proud, and who will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
